INSEAD Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff)
Description:This scholarship is an endowed gift to INSEAD from the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff). The Fund was established in 1987 by the Nippon Foundation. The Sylff programme demonstrates its commitment to education through awarding fellowships to promising graduate students in the social sciences and humanities. 69 universities and consortia worldwide, including INSEAD, have received endowments of US $1 million. The Sylff programme is now building a worldwide community of young leaders made up of the Sylff Fellows at all funded institutions. By receiving this award at INSEAD, candidates automatically join the Sylff worldwide network and gain opportunity to apply for additional Sylff support programs.
As a philanthropist and the founding chairman of the Nippon Foundation, Ryoichi Sasakawa articulated a philosophy that remains the driving force of the programme today. "The world is one family", he maintained, "and all mankind are brothers and sisters". The Sylff programme is based on these principles. By helping to create a new generation of leaders, it seeks to overcome the divisions of nationality, religion, ethnic background and politics. Sylff would like to encourage candidates of any nationality to broaden their knowledge and enhance their career opportunities through the INSEAD MBA programme.
